Preparation, Celebration and Preparation!

Final Exams!  Two words that strike fear into the hearts of young and old alike.  For the young they are an ever present source of fear and anticipation. For those of us who are older, they are the source of dreams that quickly become nightmares.

Our students are now in the midst of preparing for those exams.  All across the campus study groups are clustered in circles reviewing the intricacies of quadratic equations, scientific compounds, base 10 math, the Book of Ezekiel, and the grammatical components of a proper English sentence.

Celebration!

There is so much to celebrate at Good Soil Academy!

  • We are celebrating the impending close of our first year.  God has done so much to make all of this possible!  In fact, it is nothing short of a miracle that Good Soil Academy exists.

  • We are celebrating the spiritual and character growth that we are seeing in our students.  They have not only memorized the values of GSA, but they are practicing and living them out every day.  They honor God by worshiping Him daily in prayer, praise and devotions.  They live generous lives in so many ways, even giving of their minuscule resources for community outreach projects.  Our students and teachers add value to one another through their peer study groups, sharing in their assigned chores, and constantly encouraging one another.  They seek to do the right thing with amazing consistency.  I have never seen a group of such well-behaved students.

  • We are celebrating academic growth.  The teachers at GSA are an inspiration to all of us.  They have completed the entire Form One curriculum and are moving on to Form Two.  They take the time to meet with our students in small groups, and they are quick to identify girls who require additional support.

  • We are celebrating physical growth!  Three nourishing meals a day have made a remarkable difference for all of our students.  They have the energy to study, to play sports and to sing.

  • Our Girls dormitory is complete and four teachers’ residences will be done soon.

  • Our teaching team has grown together as a team.

  • Our GSA Leadership Team has developed a 1-3 year Strategic Plan and is beginning to implement the same.

  • We are GROWING! 38 new tuition paying students have already been enrolled for next year.

  • We completed our first Community Outreach Project at Mitundu Hospital.

  • The School is becoming known throughout Malawi as a Christian School of Choice.

  • We have completed one year of the entrepreneurship curriculum.

  • Our students have been appointed to various leadership positions in the school, and they now facilitate the worship services.

  • We have a girls chorus that has visited churches around the Lilongwe area.

  • Our sports program is underway with a fully uniformed Netball and Soccer Team.

  • Every Sunday and daily throughout the week, our students have been challenged to grow in their faith.

  • Our entire Staff Team has met weekly for devotions.

  • Each week of the school year has been assigned a devotional theme.  The final themes for weeks 13 and 14 align with this celebration.  Week 13’s theme is “Finishing Strong,” and week 14’s theme is “Thanksgiving and Reflection.”  These focused themes have contributed significantly to both spiritual growth and character development.

  • A strong PTO has been formed, and we have a group of supportive and invested parents who value the values of GSA.

  • We’ve been able to facilitate a field trip to study one of the most successful banana farms in Malawi as a lab experience for our entrepreneurship students.

More Preparation!

Starting a new school is not for the faint of heart. It presents cascading challenges that require innovation, hard work and dedication.  Fortunately, God has given us a Team willing to engage in all three tasks.

Our 2026-2027 Budget has been prepared and is designed with the objective of sustainability. Our GSA Team has completed a strategic plan for next year and the ensuing two years thereafter.  Advertising for next year’s Form One and Form Two classes has already yielded fruit.

We would be remiss if we did not reiterate and iterate the needs that GSA faces for 2026-2027.  First and foremost, we need to fabricate chairs, tables, desks and beds for 141 new students.  I’ve written separately about that need. We are at about one-third of the funds needed for this project, and we believe that God will continue to meet our needs.

Looking ahead.  We can anticipate the need to build 6 to 8 new classrooms during the summer of 2027.  God has been with us at every turn and step, and so we are confidently able to depend on Him for our future.

Real preparation comes with prayer. Most importantly then, we’d like your commitment to pray for us.  Please pray that God will protect our students and our school.  Please pray that He will remain at the center of all that we do. Please pray that God will continue to grow and strengthen our teaching team and administrative team.  Please pray that we move closer to sustainability.  Please pray that we are able to continue to make our school accessible to students from families with little or nothing.
